Laura was the Fall 2020 10-Week Challenge Winner -
“I decided to join Farrell’s because I was on a journey at that time to recover from a very serious life threatening autoimmune disease called necrotitis myopathy that Mayo Clinic told me I only had 2-4 months to live. I was really almost a complete invalid. I had to have somebody with me 24/7, I couldn’t stand, I could barely even talk anymore I was so weak-it was a lot like ALS. Luckily, I was able to do some things that started changing it around which was an entire year process. I lost a lot of weight-I weighed 50lbs less than I do now. I was very, very weak, and my muscles from sitting in a chair not only were weak but were very atrophied and shorted, especially my soads and sit flexors.
At the time that I started kickboxing, I had been walking again for about 5 years, but this was the very beginning. The first year that I was walking again, it took me close to year to hold my lightest kettlebell at 18lbs for just 30 seconds. It was a slow, long process. Then, when I started kickboxing, it was fun! That was my big thing. I have a martial arts background so I love this. Besides being fun, I knew that this really going to help me in so many different ways, more than I expected.
